Portuguese

Communicating with confidence and creativity

From Year 1 to Year 5, students explore Portuguese every day through reading, writing, speaking, and language analysis. They engage in hands-on learning with stories, poems, comics, and news articles, building a broad and meaningful cultural repertoire from an early age.

Each lesson is an opportunity to spark curiosity, develop comprehension and interpretation, and nurture a love of reading. By engaging with different text types and sharing ideas in reading circles and literary projects, students strengthen their oral and written expression, build argumentation skills, and learn to listen and respect their classmates’ turn to speak.

Music

Explore rhythm, melody, and cultural expression

Children participate in music activities that develop rhythmic and melodic skills, encourage listening, and support artistic expression. Exploring a broad cultural repertoire, students discover different styles, traditions, and histories, building appreciation and sensitivity.

Critical thinking with numbers

Students explore numbers, shapes, and patterns to solve everyday problems. They practise operations, test different strategies, and explain their reasoning, developing confidence as creative and flexible problem-solvers. By connecting mathematical concepts to real-life situations, students strengthen logical thinking, creativity, and independence. In this way, they are prepared to make informed decisions and face challenges with confidence, applying mathematics in a practical and meaningful way in their daily lives

History

Understanding change through stories

In Elementary School, students study History by exploring both the past and the present. They investigate important people, events, and moments from their community, state, and country, learning to compare different perspectives, ask thoughtful questions, and understand how past choices shape the world they live in today. The subject encourages students to interpret events, connect them to the present day, and participate actively and critically in society.

Throughout this process, students grow as thinkers and communicators, building knowledge with empathy and reflection. All content is aligned with the BNCC, ensuring a rich, relevant, and student-centred learning experience that prepares each learner to build their future with awareness and responsibility.

History

Geography

Connecting places and people

Students explore places both near and far through images, maps, and data. They create their own maps, build simple models, and work collaboratively to understand how environments, cultures, and human actions are connected and change over time. Through this process, they discover how people organise, transform, and relate to places, building a deeper understanding of their own surroundings.

The Geography curriculum encourages an appreciation of diversity and promotes environmental awareness and active citizenship. From the early years, students learn to build sustainable relationships with the world around them, developing responsible and thoughtful attitudes towards society and nature

Language

Deepening understanding and connecting with the world

Literature projects expand as students develop their English skills. They interpret and analyse carefully selected texts, which encourage conversations about social, cultural, and human themes, connecting literature to real experiences and fostering critical thinking.

Through debates, creative writing, and immersive activities, students cultivate an interest in the language, broaden their perspectives, and connect their learning to the world beyond school.

Physical Education (PE)

Collaborative games and increasing movement complexity

Physical Education activities grow in complexity, helping students develop motor skills, coordination, balance, agility, and endurance. Collaborative games encourage teamwork, empathy, respect for rules, and cooperation, with a focus on shared learning and enjoyment of activity.

These experiences help students see movement as a way to express themselves, connect with others, and promote physical and emotional well-being, building a foundation for a healthy life.

Programa Semente

Developing emotional intelligence and resilience

Children take part in playful activities, group reflections, and shared experiences that help them understand their feelings, manage emotions, and connect with others. As they work together, they practise empathy, develop resilience, and strengthen their autonomy.

Every day, they celebrate achievements and face challenges, strengthening their sense of belonging and emotional intelligence, which extends beyond the classroom.

Programa Semente

Maker Activity

Encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and leadership

Through hands-on learning, students experiment, test ideas, and build solutions, exercising collaboration and teamwork. They develop communication, creativity, and problem-solving skills, learning to work together effectively and efficiently.

Programa Semente also encourages autonomy and student leadership, empowering learners to take responsibility for their ideas and become active creators of knowledge. In this way, each learner is encouraged to engage, propose solutions, and participate consciously and proactively in their learning process.

Maker Activity

Arts

Imagination, creativity, and aesthetic development

Students experiment with materials, techniques, and visual languages, developing imagination, creativity, and personal expression. As their skills evolve, their work shows greater aesthetic awareness, with attention to composition, colour, shape, and texture.

Students learn to value their own creations and those of others, connecting art to the world around them and building a rich visual experience.

Science

Investigating the nature of the planet

Students ask questions, plan investigations, and test ideas about living beings, materials, and space. They build and refine models, record evidence, and use their findings to understand how and why phenomena happen around them. In addition, they explore the human body, living things and their environments, materials and their transformations, the Earth, space, and technologies present in everyday life.

Throughout these activities, students take on responsibilities and learn to care for themselves, others, and the environment. In this way, they develop scientific awareness, investigation skills, and responsible attitudes, connecting learning to everyday life.
